Animated Avatars in AIM 7

In this video, I will show you how to edit any .gif animated image so that you can use it for your avatar in AIM 7. This way, we can have buddy icons that animate! :)

**MAKE SURE YOU USE FIREFOX TO DO THIS**

Here are the links used in this video:

Download AIM 7: http://dashboard.aim.com/aim
For editing our gif image: http://gifworks.com/
Image-hosting site: http://photobucket.com/
*You don’t necessarily need to upload your images to an imagehosting site, all you have to do is rightclick your image when you are done editing it in gifworks and click “copy image location”. You can do this for your large and small image, since gifworks will erase the image after a few hours, and AIM only needs the url of the image once.*

**This is what should be entered into the address bar in Firefox at the end**

aim:buddyicon?src=url_of_small_image&largesrc=url_of_large_image

If you have any questions at all, feel free to message me :)

  15. if it’s the size of …
if it’s the size of an ice cube than it’s too small as far as dimensions go, but if u are getting the error message about the 400k limit then ur image is may be larger than that in file size, no matter how small the actual dimensions are. and ur gonna want to get an image bigger than something really tiny if ur using AIM 7 cuz remember it allows us to use large icons now.

  16. TheAnimeProductions on January 1st, 2010 at 11:40 am

    That’s not possible …
That’s not possible because the GIF I’m trying to get on AIM is so small it’s the size of a ice cube literally.

  17. like the video says …
like the video says, im showing u how to use a GIF image as ur avatar. and GIFworks only uses GIF images…and of course 400k is too big. remember, we need to limit the size to 64k. that kind of reduction is impossible. find a smaller sized image that is a gif and it should work fine.

    Help… GifWorks …
Help… GifWorks Says error FWorks currently accepts only images that are saved in the GIF (.gif) format. There is also a 400k image size limit… please try again Help :(

  19. np, one thing i did …
np, one thing i did notice though. when you reduce the colors of your small image, it may come out really crappy looking. if you want you could try clicking “websafe colors” under that “optimize” menu, then clicking “closest match”. this should give you a better quality image than if you reduced the colors while giving you that same size reduction. also, it isn’t necessary that you upload the image to an imagehosting website; you can just right click it on gif works and click copyimagelocation
